I received my degree in Medicine in July 1981 and my certification in cardiology in 1988, both from the School of Medicine at the Universitat de Barcelona. In 1989-1990, I was a research fellow in electrophysiology at the University of Limburg at Maastricht (Netherlands) with Pedro Brugada and Hein J Wellens as mentors. Returning to Barcelona, I joined the Cardiology Department at Vall d’Hebron University Hospital and in 1996 started my work in the Arrhythmia Section at Hospital Clínic, with Dr. Josep Brugada. Our arrhythmia unit has achieved international recognition for its research and teaching activities. Current Professional Position: – Head of the Arrhythmia Section, Cardiovascular Institute, Hospital Clínic, Universitat de Barcelona, 2005-present. – Head of the Atrial Fibrillation Unit. Hospital Clínic, 2012-present. – Professor, Universitat de Barcelona, School of Medicine, 2013-present. – Coordinator and Member, Arrhythmias and Cardiac Stimulation Research Group, Idibaps503 (Institut d’Investigacions Biomèdiques August Pi i Sunyer), Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain, 2000- present. – Electrophysiology Specialist, Centre Cardiovascular Sant Jordi, Barcelona, 1993-present. I served as Principal Investigator (PI) or Collaborating Investigator in 53 competitive grants awarded by public and private institutions from 1985 through 2016. I have directed 16 PhD projects and participated in numerous research projects and multicentre studies, with a current focus on Atrial Fibrillation and Resynchronization Therapy. I have co-authored more than 300 papers in indexed journals (2016 h-index: 46).
